Taking a vote

A couple of nights ago, Wade and I were sitting at the table eating some peanut butter cookie dough straight out of the bowl with a couple of spoons.  (In our defense, I had taken Davis on 2 walks that day and Wade had taken Rocky on a walk and Tucker for a run, so we were both starving a few hours after dinner was over.)  As we were enjoying it, I heard my phone ringing and realized it was Amanda calling in to FaceTime with us.

We chatted with her for a minute, but when she caught a glimpse of the bowl and spoons, she cut us off and demanded to know what we were eating (she's a nosy one, that sister of mine!).  I confessed that it was cookie dough; she and her husband shared a good laugh, and then she said, "You guys have such strange eating habits!"

Ok, Judgy McJudgerson, thank you for that observation!  But I really don't think our eating habits are that unusual - unhealthy, perhaps, but not necessarily weird - so I'm taking a vote.  I will list out what Amanda deems "strange" behavior below, and then I want you to leave a comment deciding whether or not my sister is right.  Got it?  Great.

1. We occasionally (maybe once or twice a month) eat raw cookie dough straight out of the bowl (or package).

2. We frequently (probably once a week) have chips and queso as a meal in place of a "real" dinner.

3. We used to eat dinner before 5:00pm - thanks to Wade's new job, that doesn't happen often... but we do still eat before 5:30pm.

Let's hear what you think!

#1 and #2 are not weird. If it was healthy I'd eat cookie dough everyday, plus chips and queso are a must in Texas, even as a meal. Eating that early though? That is something reserved for the senior crowd lol!

Completely acceptable, but still strange!

#1- not strange, but not exactly healthy, either. What if you both got salmonella?! #2- totally acceptable. Even if I ate a meal's worth of calories in chips and queso, though, I would still feel obligated to follow it up with "real" food (like a taco or quesadilla...health food, natch)...so your method is probably actually healthier. #3-too early! No wonder you're starving for cookie dough later!

#1 - not at all weird
#2 - slightly weird, but I'm also jealous that you don't feel the pressure to add "real" food
#3 - definitely weird. Unless you're secretly octogenarians.

My husband and I are a dippy couple. I will make dips of all kinda for us to feast on. Cookie dough? Yes, please. And eating early? Not really, but I am always munching. Right now its shelled sunflower seeds. Jesse calls them my drug of choice because I am seriously addicted.

I grew up eating dinner at 5pm. It was ritualistically on-time. So much so that on Saturdays we'd be kicked out of the house at 7am with the simple understanding that you are to be home for dinner at 5pm sharp.

I'm with Natalie and Molly, unless you're hitting the Early Bird Special down in the cafeteria in your retirement community, its totally weird. And if you are, congrats on retirement!

#1 So not weird. Wish hubs was down with this.

#2 Sounds good to me!

#3 We frequently don't eat dinner until after 7! This is so bad for us :(

For the record, I don't think ANY of the three things you listed are weird. I have friends who regularly eat dinner at 9:30 pm since the husband works for a california company, so their entire schedule is based on the west-coast business day. And YUM to raw cookie dough at any time of day!

Not weird at all. 1. I wish I could eat cookies, let alone cookie dough (stupid gluten). 2. I prefer chips and hummus for a good meal. 3. We always try to have dinner by 5:30 at the latest so that we can all sit down to eat together. Miss Eleanor starts bath time by 6pm and is in bed by 7pm, so an early dinner is a must:)

Sorry Allison, I have to side with Amanda on most of these :)

1. I've never eaten raw cookie dough, mainly because of the raw eggs.
2. I've probably only eaten chips and queso at home once or twice, and only order it rarely if we go out to a Mexican food restaurant. Don't get me wrong, chips and queso are delicious, I just couldn't eat that as a full meal.
3. Dinner before 5 seems super early, and we eat before 6.

I think all 3 are awesome! We have eaten dinner as early as 4:00 on many occasions! :)

Oh my gosh! I'm goshing the comments actually...
all are NOT weird. People DON'T die from freaking eating the dough, my word. People down raw eggs for fun for goodness sake.
any hoo...
I'm all for chips and queso for dinner. Where do I sign up!?

When G and I are together we eat every night around 5:30. Pretty much the moment he gets home from work, so I'm all for early eating. It lets everything settle so we don't feel nasty when we sleep and lets us relax the rest of the night.

#1 Not weird at all. I asked J to go the grocery store ONE time the entire time I was pregnant, and it was to get cookie dough. The cashier questioned his purchase, and he totally ratted me out. When he got home and said that, I told him, "You can't tell people I eat raw cookie dough when I'm pregnant!!!"

#2 Totally acceptable.

#3 Weirdo! 5pm is snack time around here, but we're night-owls!

OK I'm totally late to this but the only thing strange to me is #3. But we are late eaters by nature and that is weird to most people too. So I say do what works for you!!
