Let's call the whole thing off

On Sunday evening, some friends of ours invited us over for dinner.  They served us some tasty burgers and fries, and because we are the coolest parents ever, we decided to share a few bites of our food with Davis.  We also let him try a teeny tiny (I'm talking the size of the tip of a fingernail here) piece of tomato for the first time.  He wasn't a fan, and we're not sure if he even swallowed any of it, so we didn't push it.

Fast forward to Monday morning.  I was changing the little fella's diaper after his first nap, and there was a surprise waiting for me all over the top half of his body:

It wasn't bothering him at all and he wasn't having trouble breathing, so I didn't panic, but I did call the nurse at his pediatrician's office to figure out a) why my kiddo looked like a freak of nature, and b) what could be done to fix that.  She suggested Benadryl and told me it should work within 45-60 minutes.  An hour and 15 minutes passed, and he was actually looking worse.  So, off to the pediatrician we went, and just in time for the medicine's drowsiness effects to kick in:

I had to wake him from his car nap to take him in, and he was all kinds of out of it.  One nurse told me he looked like he was stoned, to which I replied, "Yeah, I didn't really give him Benadryl - I gave him marijuana.  Don't tell anyone!"

That joke was met with a blank stare, much like this one my stoned son was giving everyone:

Anywho, after a lot of super scientific investigating (listing out all the foods he had eaten in the past 24 hours), it was determined that the tomato was likely to blame!  Even though it was a teeny tiny little piece, and even though he may not have even swallowed it, the simple fact that it came into contact with his mouth was enough to cause a reaction like that.

And even though I started my Monday off with hardly any plans, that teeny tiny little piece of tomato made sure I stayed busy.  The doctor (who is not our normal doctor and who also kept calling my son "Oliver"... pet peeve!) said it will probably get worse before it gets better, so here's to hoping she's wrong (since she can't seem to read the chart to figure out my kid's real first name, I'm hoping she is in the business of being wrong... though I guess that's not a good thing to "hope" since she is a doctor in charge of helping children, but whatever).

He is cute even when he looks stoned! Also, I'm glad I got to see those hives pics while I was eating my cottage cheese...

Poor Davis! Max has food allergies as well. It is very frustrating!

Aww poor little man! I can't stand when doctors can't read a chart correctly - we had a lady in the insurance dept of our pedi's office keep saying "your son" and "he" when she called me about Hadley once. I was so annoyed - clearly you're looking at her chart - read it correctly!
Anyway, hope Davis is feeling and looking better soon!

Poor boogaboo! I hate tomatoes, so I can't blame him. ;) And Benadryl still jacks me up.
